DOT sees more business opportunities through tourism as China-ASEAN Expo opens today Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Further boosting opportunities through tourism, the Department of Tourism joins today the official opening of the China-ASEAN Exposition (CAEXPO) in Nanning, China which will run until Oct. 22.

Started in 2004, CAEXPO is simultaneously held with the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit to provide business opportunities primarily for the participating countries within the region.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said “This is another good channel for us to strengthen our promotions in China and the rest of Asia. We are positive that our exposure in this event will further boost business
opportunities through tourism."

Joined in by entrepreneurs and industrialists from all over China and the South East Asia, CAEXPO is an ideal venue that will help intensify promotions for the mass affluent market, composed of the single white-collar workers, middle managers (married workers with kids), and the incentive travelers of the foreign invested enterprises (FIEs), which are the main markets of the Department coming from the East Asian region.

Heading the DOT delegation is Central Visayas Regional Director Patria Aurora Roa with Team China Rene Reyes and Media Officer Nadia Abcede.

The Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company will provide entertainment to the spectators of the four-day event — an effective approach to entice exhibitors and participants of the CAEXPO to have a
taste of the country’s colorful and rich culture through dance and music.

Highlighting the Department’s health and wellness program, the DOT has likewise brought to the expo two Cebu therapists who will give massage demonstrations to pavilion visitors.

The CAEXPO was conceptualized in the goal of providing business communities, not just from Asia but all over the world, a tremendous avenue for regional economic and trade collaboration. It aims to promote the building of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and strive for
mutual benefits and shared success.
